The RAV4 EV is an all-electric vehicle. The chassis is the same as the V6-powered RAV4, but where the engine would be found, an electric motor and 129kW lithium-ion battery pack provided by electric-vehicle innovator Tesla, resides. The battery pack and electric motor make as much as 154 horsepower, according to Toyota. The RAV4 EV can be charged via conventional 120V household current or an optional 240 (Level 2) charge, which fills the battery in 6 hours. In most other ways, the RAV4 EV is the same as its conventional-powered counterpart. It features the same double-wishbone suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes, power-folding mirrors and power windows and locks. It comes as front-wheel drive only. The in-dash entertainment is an advanced navigation system with Entune that includes an 8-inch touch-screen and a back-up camera. It also provides a wealth of vehicle information such as energy monitor, charge status and a range map. Various tools are included to help the driver maximize driving range: the system can display average power consumption, CO2 output vs. a conventional gasoline vehicle and an Eco coach "grades" the driver's behavior as it pertains to eco-sensitive driving habits. Other standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, push-button start, Smart Key remote keyless entry, leather-trimmed steering wheel and dual-zone climate control. Safety features include dual front airbags, side-impact airbags and vehicle proximity notification. The RAV4 EV's battery is warranted for 8 years or 100,000 miles.
